Daily Devotion:
"Talkers and Doers"
Proverbs 14:23
New Living Translation
23 Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!
What's the best part of your job? Some people would immediately answer, "Friday!” or “Payday!” But living joyfully means paying attention to not just your hard-earned paycheck but also what you're learning along the way. The joyful reward of a day's work is not just monetary, it's, also. the inevitable molding and shaping that's happening to you as a person-changes and improvements in your character or skill set you often don't even notice.
For example, even an entry-level job can teach a person a great deal about technology, leadership, problem-solving, communication, and taking responsibility. It can mold someone's character by strengthening his or her capacity for patience. It can bring a timid person out of his shell or teach anargumentative individual about the art of negotiation.
If you have a friend who's also a trusted colleague, ask him or her, “Do you feel I'm a more skilled or knowledgeable person than I was the day I was hired? In what way(s)?” You just might be delighted and surprised at the answer.
