A husband and wife symbolize Christ and the Church. This has powerful implications for communion with God. Marriage is much more than a man and a woman sharing the same space under the same roof. In God’seyes the marriage covenant is both a miracle and a mystery. It is a miracle because the husband and wife become one flesh in the marriage union. And, in aprofound mystery that we don’t fully understand, a marriage points to the union of Christ and His Church.
