IWD 2023 Women in Fashion Panel
In this episode, I spoke to a panel of successful women in the fashion industry at Soho House Hong Kong to celebrate International Women's day 2023. The speakers include: Susanna Soo, founder of S.Nine, pivoted from an IT career to become a fashion designer and entrepreneur. She is known for her timeless, elegant, and minimalist designs. Rue Madame Fashion Group, founded by Ariane Zagury in 2008, specializes in introducing European fashion brands to Asia, with a focus on French fashion. The company operates multiple brands, including Rue Madame, Hobbs, American Vintage, Phase 8, and Sweaty Betty. Sarah Fung, founder of HULA, a pre-loved luxury retail platform. The concept store combines fashion, art, and lifestyle elements. She is committed to sustainability and hopes to change the way people view second-hand fashion. Lucie Petit, the founder of HK Model Camp, a modeling and personal development program for young women in Hong Kong. Petit started the program to help young women build their self-confidence, develop their skills, and gain exposure to the fashion industry. Topics we discussed: How and why they started their business What did they have to change/pivot during the pandemic? How do you differentiate your brand from others in this crowded market Sarah - what are some programs to put in place to promote sustainable fashion, what can people do to support that? Lucie - What do you see as the largest challenge in the modelling industry Ariane - What are some of the criteria for bringing on additional brands to your fashion group? What’s the most important factor? Susanna - You have your supplier/production is in China, and you couldn’t travel to China during the past few years.
