The poem reveals the grief and sorrow that a father suffers due to a strained relationship with his son. The father is unable to understand the changes that he observes in his son. There is a lack of understanding between the two. The father is trying to discover the child that his son once was. But his son is an adult now. He lives in a world of his own.
