There is always a gap between what a child feels and and what the parents expect of her. It is true that a child should become disciplined. But should the parents seek to instruct and control the child for discipline? Or should they guide and support with understanding? It is this dichotomy between the parents' expectations and the child's feelings that has been depicted in the poem, Amanda.
