Matei Sopterean is a Director of Photography/ Cinematographer.

He studied at the National University of Theatre and Film "I.L. Caragiale" in Bucharest, where he also got he's Master and PhD. in Cinematography.

"The first time I stepped on a movie set I was 7 years old. At that time, everything was huge for me, I was playing a role of a very shy child. When I entered the first time, I was amazed by the lights and most of all, by the cinematographer of the movie. I was very scared of him and his power. But in a short time I realized that his magic is related to the movie camera that he was operating. It was an Arriflex 35 III, I fell in love with the sound of that camera and with the art of creating light where there is none. It became my passion, and my goal – I want to be like him, I want to create magic through a movie camera.

I shot my thesis film on 7 rolls of expired film, and for the first time I felt that I found my calling. This is my passion, I still follow that goal, and everything is still huge, but now it’s a part of me."
