White Veganism, Collective Liberation and Fostering More Inclusivity Within the Vegan Movement

In this week’s episode, we’re analyzing inclusivity within the vegan movement, and how we can better strive for collective liberation for both our fellow humans and non-human animals.

I interview Social Justice Activist Iye Bako, touching on several important issues and questions including:

  • What is white veganism?
  • What is collective liberation?
  • Do you think the vegan movement lacks representation of people of color?
  • How can we be better activists?
  • Do you find purity culture counterproductive?

These are incredibly important conversations that you can find further information on by following Iye’s instagram page at @iyeloveslife. It is linked here.

Iye is a graduate of Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Literature and International Business. She’s a Social Justice Advocate and believes in fighting for total liberations for both humans and non-human animals. She’s passionate about racial justice issues, and is an advisory board member of Plant the Power 614, which is a grassroots non profit that seeks to cultivate a caring plant-based community for people of color. As well, she is the co-found of V.A.A.O - Vegans Against All Oppression. Iye is originally from Nigeria, and was raised in the United States.
