In this episode, Phil takes us on a journey through fear, doubt, and transformation using two-way prayer as a central practice. Phil reflects on family dynamics, career transitions, monetizing his show, and even stepping into stand-up comedy, all while examining the delicate balance between ego, authenticity, and alignment with love and purpose. Drawing inspiration from Carl Jung’s Answer to Job, biblical narratives, and 12-step principles, Phil explores how suffering, compassion, and trust can deepen our connection to self, source, and others. This full episode of Phil Phails with guest Hollie Meador weaves together insight, reflection, and storytelling. Join us as we explore Phil’s signature Phive Questions about life cycles, dive into astrology and how it shapes perspective, and hear Hollie’s moving life story of challenges, growth, and self-discovery. A deep, engaging conversation on what it means to live with awareness and resilience.About Hollie MeadorHollie first discovered Yoga during her last semester at the University of Texas. In growing up as a competitive swimmer, health and wellness were always front & center in her life. After retiring as a member of the UT Women’s Swim Team she was able to slow down and explore courses within the realm of philosophy, examining how religion shapes culture. Her final class at UT, the Philosophy of Yoga with Dr. Stephen Phillips, opened her eyes to an East-meets-West and more holistic view of life. Rediscovering swimming as a moving meditation and how it creates a depth of both body awareness and breathwork, her transition to the practice of yoga was a natural one.In 2006, she began working in the marketing department of Yoga Yoga in Austin, where she also completed her 200-hour training in 2009. After growing her family to include two sweet boys, her focus evolved to researching child development. Wishing she had tools of mindfulness as a child, and wanting more tools as a parent, Hollie completed her 97-hour Children’s Yoga Training in 2016. Since that time, she has taught children of all ages, developed workshops focused on families building connections, and currently teaches a variety of Family Yoga classes at Studio Satya. She hopes to build self-awareness and confidence with the children in her classes – helping them feel seen, heard, and empowered to express themselves – while also creating a safe, supportive community for all families whose paths she crosses.Hollie has a degree in Photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin. She has worked as a graphic designer since 2002, ranging from small design firms to in-house tech, and currently takes on clients as a freelancer (apodiformdesign.com). In 2016 she completed her 75-hr Permaculture Design Course and happily experiments with those lessons in her backyard. The opportunity to homeschool her 13 and 9-year-old sons allows space for her to remain curious and continue learning. She is constantly working to find balance in life, remaining in the flow of how that shifts throughout the cycles that come and go. Her most recent endeavor includes training as a Hellenistic Astrologer under Adam Elenbaas, of Nightlight Astrology. You can read more about her pursuits at The Rainbow Weaver.👉 Find Hollie:website: https://www.studiosatya.com/About Phillip Jones👨👧👧 Single dad | 🧠 Neurodivergent & Proud | 🛤️ Path SeekerAfter a lifetime of personal growth—through self-help, therapy, and endless learning—I'm embracing my unique journey. In this compelling episode of Phil Phails, comedian Serena Thiel shares her raw, insightful journey through the world of stand-up comedy and creative expression. From the nerve-wracking moment of performing her first minute on the Kill Tony Netflix special, to navigating the realities of being perceived as a DEI hire, Serena opens up about the challenges and surprises of breaking into the comedy scene. She dives deep into the tough truth that betting on a career in entertainment is a gamble many can’t afford — often a path for those with no safety net or the privilege of risk. Serena reflects on the value of loving the craft itself, embracing imperfection, and the delicate alchemy of turning personal trauma and life’s hardships into comedy gold.We also explore the vulnerability behind the creative process, the idea of a “writing room” where comedians riff and refine their craft, and how modern life’s digital footprint shapes our personal narratives — sometimes painfully so.If you’ve ever wondered what it really takes to pursue a dream in comedy or art, this episode offers honest perspective, humor, and encouragement to find your own path and keep going, no matter what.#PhilPhails #SerenaThiel #ComedyJourney #StandUpComedy #CreativeProcess #EntertainmentIndustry #BetOnYourself #Vulnerability #ComedyWriting #KillTony #DEI #ArtistLife #TurningPainIntoGold #ComedyPodcast #OpportunityAbout SerenaSerena Thiel is an Austin stand-up comic. (46) Phil Phails @ philosophy with Grant PottsPhilosophy Book Club series #9Book: Philosophy's Big Questions: Comparing Buddhist and Western ApproachesQuestion: WHAT DO WE OWE FUTURE GENERATIONS? Compassion and Future Generations: A Buddhist Contribution to an Ethics of Global InterdependenceIn this thought-provoking episode of Phil Phails @ Philosophy Book Club, Phil and Grant dive deep into some of life’s most challenging and timeless questions. From the spiritual idea of tikkun—the work of repairing the broken world—to confronting injustice and compassion in a fractured society, they explore how ancient wisdom and modern struggles intersect. They unpack the complex ethics of accountability, the nature of suffering, and the tension between personal responsibility and systemic failure.Along the way, they reflect on the difficult role of compassion—even for those who may seem undeserving—and the uneasy emotions around societal collapse, violent unrest, and what we owe future generations in a world that often seems to be breaking down. Finally, Phil and Grant look forward, considering how to continue their philosophical journey beyond dense academic texts to include accessible ideas from popular culture and leadership, setting the stage for more engaging, real-world discussions. This episode is a rich blend of philosophy, personal reflection, social critique, and plans for future explorations into meaning and ethics.#PhilPhails #PhilosophyBookClub #TikkunOlam #Compassion #SocialJustice #Ethics #FutureGenerations #PhilosophyAndLife #SystemicInjustice #Accountability #ViolentRevolAbout Grant PottsGrant Potts is a distinguished faculty member at Austin Community College, specializing in Philosophy, Religion, and Humanities.
