
Organ donation or transplant surgery involves life saving or to improve quality of life or useful in cancer chemotherapy. The organ rejection by the host or receiver is due to several signaling mechanisms which lead to Graft versus Host Disease. The first signal is T cell triggering at the CD3 receptors leading to activation of T cells lead to several signal transduction pathways causing Interleukin 2 working through mTOR pathway of lymphocyte proliferation that is important in rejecting a donated organ. Several drugs address the triggering or costimulatory pathways and cause immune suppression and increase the acceptance of the donated organ. This video gives a clear and simple explanation of organ donations classification of immunosuppressants and pharmacology of individual drugs in each category.
