New influenza pandemics stemming from outbreaks of H5N1 avian or bird flu and H1N1 Swine flu and few drugs available for prophylaxis and treatment. The drugs either inhibit the channel protein for uncoating or inhibit the key enzyme neuraminidase for maturation of the virion. Resistance has emerged due to overuse of these drugs and it is a major challenge of prophylaxis of influenza to drive the future of the epidemics.
