The Guru Factor - Narcissism in Spiritual Communities

The Guru Factor - Narcissism in Spiritual Communities

Inspired by Holy Hell, the fascinating documentary by Will Allen, we spend this episode talking about the guru factor, and about the film itself.  What makes spiritual communities of seekers such fertile ground for narcissistic abuse? What are the red flags to watch out? As always, we also touch on our own experiences of this kind of abuse.

It's a juicy one. Please note that there are moments when the sound quality is compromised and there's some weird banging in the background. We hope you enjoy the episode anyway. As always, there's a level of humour despite a heavy topic.

TRIGGER WARNING: we discuss abuse within spiritual communities, cults, rape and sexual manipulation by a leader/"master".

Watch Holy Hell trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f2BG43JW0o  - you can rent the full-length documentary on YouTube or Google for a few quid. And another clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwfJoHt_ywE

My own personal experience supports the former perception - there'll be a link to our first past imperfect blog very soon with details. Make up your own mind about this.
