42: A Day in the Life of NYU PhD Candidate, Gabby Whiten: Finding the Intersection of Science, Communication, and Education

Gabby Whiten is a Ph.D. candidate at the NYU School of Medicine and freelance digital creative. Gabby attended UNC Chapel Hill for undergrad, where she uncovered a passion for scientific research and experimentation. Gabby began her Ph.D. program right out of college, determined to work at the intersection of science, communication, and education. Outside of her research, Gabby has a thriving presence on YouTube and Instagram, flexes her creative muscles servicing clients with graphic design work, and explores everything New York City has to offer.

In today's episode, I pick Gabby’s brain on the 101 of Ph.D. work: why and how she landed on the specific program and set of research she did, what a day-in-the-life of a Ph.D. student really looks like, and how she balances her full-time program with part-time hustles. If you’re curious about a path where science and design collide, this one’s for you!
