Parisian Pleasures: Antique Fairs, Immersive Fables, and Dazzling Gargoyle Selfies
Bonjour, adventure seekers and Paris dreamers! Oly Bennet here tapping in from the heart of Paris, where the energy today—Sunday, September 28, 2025—is poppin’ like a fresh baguette from the oven. The weather’s treating us to that perfect Indian summer glow: warm sun, a light breeze, and the city’s trees flirting with their first gilded tips of autumn. Parisians are freshly back from their holidays, riding high on la rentrée spirit, and you can feel the buzz—a mix between the daily café rush and the thrill of phenomenal events lighting up the city.

Now, for today’s offbeat Parisian menu of the wild and wonderful! First up, the legendary Foire de Chatou is back on Île des Impressionnistes—think France’s grandest antique and vintage fair, where you might just discover Marie Antoinette’s old tea set squeezed between a 1980s Minitel and some haute couture hats. Glitter, history, and treasures galore for bargain-hunters and everyone who loves a rummage.

For families looking to squeeze the last juice from summer, head to Bois de Boulogne for La Fête à Neuneu—a classic funfair with merry-go-rounds, cotton candy, and enough raucous games to bring out the child in everyone. If you fancy a dip into Parisian culture, check out Fables Immersives near the Champs-Élysées, where the witty tales of La Fontaine come to life in an interactive, story-rich spectacle that’s pure magic no matter your age.

Art lovers, don’t miss the John Singer Sargent show at Musée d’Orsay. With 90 works strutting their stuff, this exhibition is basically Paris Fashion Week for paintings. Speaking of fashion, Printemps Haussmann is displaying “Bag, bag, bag. More Than a Bag”—it’s a free exhibition that charts the epic quest of handbags, from Louis Vuitton powerhouses to the delightfully weird wonders only Parisians could dream up.

For music fans craving more than just accordion solos on the Metro, Architects, the British metalcore band, are firing up the Adidas Arena tonight for some ear-splitting energy.

For those prowling Paris by night, Pigalle’s Cancan Pigalle presents TurboCancan, an irreverent cabaret shaking up the usual routine. And if you’re curious about what’s new off the streets, the freshly reopened towers of Notre-Dame now feature a revamped visitor itinerary. The view at the top is spectacular, the climb is a great warm-up for your quads, and yes, you can now dazzle your friends with the ultimate gargoyle selfie.

Checking in on city life: Paris Metro lines are running smoothly—but watch for the weekend closures on select RER lines for annual maintenance, so double-check your journeys if you’re zooming beyond the city center. Two hot new eateries opened in the Marais—one specializing in vegan croissants (sacrebleu!) and the other in Alsatian comfort food, perfect for those pre-winter cravings.

Oly’s tip for today: when wandering Montmartre, skip the tourist-crowded Sacré-Cœur steps and climb up Rue du Mont-Cenis at sunrise. You’ll get a local’s view of Paris waking up—free from the crowds, plus the city’s best chance for spontaneous street music.

Get hyped for tomorrow: the Paris Autumn Festival is launching at venues citywide, and the free show on the Eiffel Tower’s Champ de Mars for Pink October’s kickoff will paint the Iron Lady in dazzling pink. I’ll be back with more oddball adventures, festival fever, and quirky competitions hiding in plain sight.
