He shares his academic background, the impetus for writing the book, and the importance of understanding Judaism as a living tradition. The discussion delves into the development of rabbinic Judaism, the concept of supersessionism in Christian theology, and the nature of rabbinic debate and study, highlighting the theological implications of these topics. In this conversation, Tzvi Novick discusses the intricate relationship between Judaism and Christianity, focusing on themes such as the interpretation of divine law, the journey from Torah to Talmud, the nature of Jewish spirituality, and the significance of Zionism. He emphasizes the importance of community in Jewish practice and the understanding of law as an expression of God's love. The discussion also touches on the concepts of merit and afterlife in Judaism, contrasting it with Christian perspectives, and concludes with reflections on contemporary Jewish identity and spirituality.

Dr. Tzvi Novick is Abrams Professor of Jewish Thought and Culture at the University of Notre Dame. Professor Novick completed a B.A. from Yale University with a degree in philosophy. After a very brief but instructive legal career, and an MA in Hebrew Bible from Yeshiva University, he enrolled in the PhD program in Religious Studies at Yale, from which he graduated in 2008 with a focus on early rabbinic Judaism (ca. 2nd to 6th c.). Professor Novick has taught at Notre Dame ever since, on subjects ranging from the Bible to modern Judaism and post-Holocaust literature and theology.Grab your copy of Judaism: A Guide for Christians πŸ‘‰ https://www.amazon.com/Judaism-Guide-Christians-Tzvi-Novick/dp/0802884326/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2VXA7GE90MLZB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ydi5ars04mfh8uHJSZ0S9KRYa7HUg6GvBF8hleH2U6aZXYUze7tpfRY5bZFpyRgNOCET8x7UefzaY8Fej5TlZ_UIU9GoAH7yF3Odf53RQ6cQKvR_7gI7FcyRlCo8ZWHEoPRoRqI_txBIOckw0OJ2CbnGmqNF7esADSrrLB3_a-YNguAs6eky2gr68-qM7yEQffgTJh-c2FInEoNekm6hg2qQwzG3HLwWbXRmpyS8Q78.VQyJTWJBqOo5W2bw15CEnwIN0zhUrc51JzOiqWlNzyU&dib_tag=se&keywords=judaism+a+guide+for+christians&qid=1742074253&sprefix=judaism%3A+a+gu%2Caps%2C271&sr=8-1#judaism #chrstian #tzvinovick #rabbinicjudaism #supersessionism #jewish #theology #jewishtradition #talmud #torah #zionism #spirituality #law #afterlife
