Nearly 100 years before Nehemiah, Daniel served in the courts of Nebuchadnezzar. Now, Nehemiah is cupbearer in the Persian court. These are examples of God's mercy to the heathen kingdoms. An exile serving in the most powerful and influential position is like Jesus Christ humbling himself and coming like a man. He is of priestly background coming as Governor (King) foreshadows ministry of Christ!
