These great men had a formula for success. Rise early. Work hard. And - most importantly - strike oil. Each episode I read a biography of an oilman. Some loom large and have a shining legacy. Others have been largely forgotten. But what they all did was enable an energy revolution that built our modern world. This is Oilmen.

#7 Aubrey McClendon - Part 1
Aubrey McClendon is the co-founder of Chesapeake Energy and founder of American Energy Partners. I’m drawing from the pages of Gregory Zuckerman's book The Frackers as well as multiple articles from Forbes, Reuters, and The Oklahoman. If you do not know much about Aubrey McClendon – well, you are going to enjoy this. And I have to admit, it’s a little wild to try and cover his life. I have friends and family who worked at Chesapeake, and directly with Aubrey. So…to try and tell his story is…well, I’ll do my best. That said, Aubrey’s career was incredible, from acquiring acreage in every major U.S. basin, to utilizing horizontal drilling, to pushing the use of natural gas - for power generation, for CNG vehicles, for LNG exports – to his magnificent wine collections, parties, splurges – buying and relocating an NBA team to Oklahoma City - McClendon became an image of a risk-taking energy icon, and he was an incredible petroleum entrepreneur.
