Episode 54: Niching Down

In this episode, we are joined by Amy Matychuk. Amy is the Founder and Principal Lawyer at Prison and Police Law, a law practice dedicated to advocacy on behalf of those experiencing mistreatment while detained or imprisoned. She previously clerked at the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Nunavut Court of Justice. In her spare time, Amy enjoys powerlifting.

Immediately following her two clerkships, Amy niched down and began her solo practice. As the only lawyer in Alberta who practices in the niche of prison and police misconduct, Amy takes us through how and why she niched down, and the unique challenges of her practice. Amy shares her brilliant strategies for setting boundaries with clients and strategically protecting her time and work flow. We also learn about Amy’s experience living in Nunavut and her favourite candle hack.
