7: Quicks Tips to 10k: Just Kidding This is All About Trauma-Informed Abundance and Sustainable, Slow Growth

In this episode Erin goes off the deep end about how we can cultivate abundance while surviving a pandemic. We can acknowledge that we live in systems of oppression and capitalism sucks, and we still need money to survive and thrive. If you have icky feelings about money, and if you don’t like talking about or having a relationship with your money, then it’s going to be much harder to invite more money into your life.

It’s all too common for entrepreneurs with anti-capitalist, feminist values to give our money away leaving us in dire straits, or we end up running ourselves into the ground because we aren’t charging enough for the value of our work. I love working with people who deeply care about the world and it’s crucial to redistribute our income as much as possible, especially for us white people.

But we need to have a better and more realistic understanding about our money, so that we can build sustainable businesses and futures for ourselves. If it’s not sustainable for YOU, it’s not sustainable for anyone. You won’t be able to have the impact you’re here to create if you’re depleted. The goal of equity and justice is not to run yourself dry of your resources. When you’re replenished and full, you can help others become replenished and full. It’s a reciprocal and mutual relationship. If it’s a one-way street then it’s exploitative.

My trauma of money showed up in the ways in which I was afraid to sell, in the ways I was afraid to talk about my work, and charge more for my work. My subconscious told me I couldn’t trust myself with money and I was so afraid that money meant that I would become a greedy, money-hoarding asshole.

So, if this resonates for you I encourage you to ask yourself, “What would it be like to trust yourself with money?” And listen to this episode and let me know if something shifts for you.
