Jonathan Thorpe, a 63-year-old man, was found guilty of fraud and received an 18-month suspended prison sentence after exploiting his position as power of attorney for a vulnerable victim. He transferred £15,414 from her account to his own for personal expenses. Thorpe, who was living in Cyprus, returned to the UK for a voluntary interview, admitting to receiving the money but claiming it was pre-approved. He pleaded guilty to ten counts of fraud by abuse of position and was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
