
Rachel Lance has a PhD in biomedical engineering, which basically means using the math and equations of engineering to study the problems of medicine. She started her career as a civil servant for the US Navy in Panama City, Florida, where she worked building custom diving equipment to meet the needs of military divers. Her scientific work has focused on the medical problems related to extreme environments, such as trauma following explosions and the challenges of surviving underwater. Her most recent book isChamber Divers: the untold story of the D-Day Scientists who changed special operations forever.
