"This is not an accounting of the modern US Navy SEAL teams. If that’s what you’re interested in, may I suggest you reach for one of the dozen or so recently published memoirs now crowding bookstore shelves everywhere."
That is from the preface ofBy Water Beneath the Walls: The Rise of the Navy SEALsby Ben Milligan. This book, which focuses on the frogmen and UDTs of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam that would evolve into the SEAL Teams has been described as “the Navy SEAL book we need.” Ben served in the SEAL Teams from 2001-2009, a fact that never comes up in this book in true, quiet professional fashion. Ben is the recipient of the Bronze Star among other combat decorations. He lives in Chicago and is the father of three boys.
