In this special bilingual episode of Nos Parcours, we explore one of the most extraordinary medical discoveries in history — the discovery of insulin, made right here in Canada. 🇨🇦💉
More than a hundred years ago, diabetes was a fatal disease. There was no treatment, and most people who suffered from it died very young. But in 1921, a young Canadian doctor, Frederick Banting, and his assistant, Charles Best, working in a small laboratory at the University of Toronto, made a discovery that would change the world forever.
After months of experiments, they found a hormone capable of controlling blood sugar — insulin. In 1922, they tested it for the first time on a young boy named Leonard Thompson, who was very sick. The result was a miracle: the boy recovered and lived.
This discovery saved millions of lives and transformed diabetes from a deadly illness into a manageable condition. Dr. Banting became the youngest Nobel Prize laureate in medicine, and his discovery remains one of the greatest scientific achievements of all time. 🌍✨
