Gnome’s Surf Therapy Program Gains Momentum and Seeks Community Support
Christopher Antao from Gnome Surf Therapy is a frequent guest on the Nosara Podcast. His ‘Happy Camp’ here in Nosara is by now well established and is getting more and more embraced by the Nosara community. Hear more about the latest updates and Chris’s plans for offering Surf Therapy programs for Nosara locals here. Some of the show notes: Chris is back and excited about the upcoming plans for the surf therapy program. In February, 10 athletes and four families are scheduled to participate in the program in Nome. The program follows a family-centric approach, and there is a high demand, with bookings for the next two years. The success of the program is evident, with positive feedback from those who have experienced it in Nome. The conversation touches on the challenges Chris faced in establishing the surf therapy program, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and consistency. Plans include expanding the program to involve local kids and the Tico populace, fostering interaction and learning. Chris discusses the growth of the surf therapy organization back home, with over 50 trained surfing instructors and 5,000 sessions conducted in the past year. He expresses a desire to train the local community in Nosara and seeks support in bridging gaps, including funding, administration, and connections. Chris emphasizes his goal of truly helping the local community and encourages donations through the organization’s website, gnomesurf.com. Lastly, Chris invites everybody to support in various capacities, from funding to volunteering, to further integrate the surf therapy program into the community.
