Dr. Maia von Maltzahn is a geriatrician at Nova Scotia Health Authority, Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University, and Program Director for the Geriatric Medicine program at Dalhousie. She completed her undergraduate degree at Mount Allison University and medical school at Dalhousie. Dr. von Maltzahn is a testament that going “unmatched” in the first round of CaRMS is not a predictor of future successes: she went on to complete Internal Medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan, where she was awarded the Dr. Ian Holmes Senior Resident Professionalism Award. She then completed further residency training in geriatric medicine at the University of Toronto, where she received multiple first place awards for her residency research projects. Currently, Dr. von Maltzahn is the Halifax site Principal Investigator for COMPASS-ND, which is a multi-site, national longitudinal study on dementia. She is also completing a Master’s of community health and epidemiology at Dalhousie.
