The easiest thing to tell a woman in a violent marriage is to just leave. But is leaving always that simple? From financial vulnerabilities to a loss of kinships, to a turbulent clash of hope and fear, to a complex interplay of love and desire, the decision to not leave are also stories that need to be heard. In this story, a caseworker walks us through her Sunday, that day of the week when she takes her son to visit her husband's village. What awaits her there are the probing questions of neighbours as well as the calming presence of her best friend - a Mahua tree.

Caseworker's Diary is a series of audio stories, which emerged from the lived experiences of caseworkers in Uttar Pradesh, who work with situations of murder, rape, abduction, child sexual abuse, dowry deaths and domestic violence.

This series is a part of The Third Eye’s The Caseworker’s Dictionary of Violence which introduces a vocabulary around gender-based violence (GBV) that emerges from the grassroots, from those at the frontlines, within a deeply Indian context.

लड़कियां या औरतें समझौता करना कहां से सीखती हैं? कैसे वे मायके और ससुराल में सभी को खुश रखने के लिए अपनी खुद की ज़िंदगी को होम करने के लिए तैयार हो जाती हैं? सच यह है कि पैदा होने से लेकर बड़े होने तक अपने आसपास मां, बहन, दादी, चाची, नानी,,,इन सभी को वे समझौता करते ही देखती हैं. और इस तरह घर-परिवार की खुशी के लिए अपने आप ही वे समझौता करने लगती हैं. क्या होता है जब कोई औरत इस चक्र को तोड़कर खुद के लिए खड़ी होती है? उस समय कौन उसका साथ देता है?

केसवर्कर्स डायरी के तीसरे एपिसोड में एक केसवर्कर हमें अपने संडे के दिन के बारे में बताती है, सप्ताह का वह दिन जब अपने बेटे के साथ वो अपने पति के गाँव जाती है जहाँ गाँव के लोगों के तीखे सवालों के साथ-साथ उसकी सबसे प्यारी सहेली—एक महुआ के पेड़—उसका इंतजार कर रहे हैं। केसवर्कर्स डायरी, एक ऑडियो शृंखला है जो जेंडर आधारित हिंसा से जुड़े मामलों पर काम करने वाली 12 केसवर्करों के अनुभवों से निकलकर आई है. उत्तर-प्रदेश के ललितपुर, बांदा और लखनऊ ज़िले में काम करने वाली ये सभी केसवर्कर हत्या, बलात्कार, अपहरण, बच्चों के यौन शोषण, दहेज हत्या और घरेलू हिंसा जैसे मुद्दों पर काम करती हैं.

यह ऑडियो शृंखला ‘केसवर्कर्स द्वारा हिंसा की शब्दावली’ का एक हिस्सा है जिसमें जेंडर आधारित हिंसा से जुड़े उन महत्त्वपूर्ण शब्दों को शामिल किया गया है, जिनकी मदद से ज्ञान और समझ का निर्माण होता है. इस पॉडकास्ट को हुमा ने आवाज़ दी है.
