After going to school, our podcast series is going to jail.

At TTE, we are very invested in expanding the notion of the field, and bring to life the lives of various people who make a field humane. In this case, it’s the social worker who works in prison, and the deep relationships that she forms with those on the other side of the law.

In F se Field, J se Jail, we bring you four very-short stories narrated by a social worker who tells us of her long-term client and friend, Sarita. This story will begin as all stories do - in the first meeting. Listen to all four parts to expand your own notions of crime and punishment. 

Over the last 10 months, we have been conducting writing workshops with 5 social workers from Prayas, a field action project which does social work intervention in the Criminal Justice System. It is housed in the Centre for Criminology and Justice in Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). This set of stories developed from the prompt, "Write the description of a place of work and introduce your characters through that place." 

Letters are narrated, written, and edited by Krupa Shah.

फ से फ़ील्ड ज से जेल पॉडकास्ट सीरीज़ के नइ नए सीज़न में हम लाएं हैं जेल के भीतर से कहानियां.

द थर्ड आई में हमारा काम फ़ील्ड की समझ को विस्तार देना भी है. हम फ़ील्ड पर काम करने वाले लोगों की कहानियों को सामने लाने का प्रयास करते हैं जो अपने अनोखे अंदाज़ के साथ इसे जीवंत बनाते हैं. तो, इस बार हमारे साथ हैं महाराष्ट्र के जेल में काम करने वाली एक सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता जो अपने क्लाइंट (जेल में बंद महिला कैदी जिनके साथ सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता काम करती हैं) के साथ रोज़मर्रा की कहानियों को हमारे साथ साझा कर रही हैं.

इस पहले एपिसोड में वे हमें अपनी एक क्लाइंट- सरिता के बारे में हमें बता रही हैं. चार एपिसोड के इस सीरीज़ में वे हमें कोविड महामारी के बीच छुपे जीवन को उसके अनेकों रंगों से हमें रू-ब-रू कर करती हैं. पिछले साल 2023 में हमने प्रयास संस्था के साथ जुड़ी सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ काम करना शुरू किया था. प्रयास, टाटा सामाजिक विज्ञान संस्थान (TISS) का फ़ील्ड एक्शन प्रोजेक्ट है जो आपराधिक न्याय व्यवस्था के क्षेत्र में सामाजिक कार्य करता है. पिछले 10 महीनों में हमने प्रयास संस्था के साथ काम करने वाली पांच सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ मिलकर जेल के भीतर उनकी उपस्थिति, उनका काम, जेल के साथ उनका क्या रिश्ता है जैसे तमाम पहलुओं को जानने-समझने का काम किया. हमने साथ मिलकर कई कार्यशालाएं कीं और जो सामने आया उसे हम आपके साथ साझा कर रहे हैं. एक कार्यशाला के दौरान हमने जब उनसे कहा कि, ‘आप जहां काम करती हैं उसके बारे में बताएं और उस जगह पर आप किनसे मिलते हैं उसके बारे में भी बताएं’

इन चिट्ठियों को लिखने, इसे संपादित करने और रेडियो पर आवाज़ देने का काम कृपा शाह ने किया है.

हम टाटा इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर सोशल साइंस (TISS) से जुड़ी शेरोन मेनेज़ेस का भी शुक्रिया अदा करना चाहते जिन्होंने हमारा ध्यान इस ओर खींचा और जेल में काम करने वाली सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं से हमारी मुलाकात करवाई.
