08. Interview with Nephrology Nurse Leader Dr. Loretta Jackson Brown
In this episode, Lillian Pryor, MSN, RN, CNN, the 2020-2021 President of the American Nephrology Nurses Association, talks with Loretta Jackson Brown, PhD, RN, CNN, the Senior Health Communication Specialist and Team Lead, Education, Campaigns, and Implementation, for the National Center of Injury Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and a leader within the American Nephrology Nurses Association. Dr. Brown discusses her career journey, some of her experiences leading up to her nursing career, how she was introduced to nephrology nursing, her involvement with the American Nephrology Nurses Association, her mantra for her own personal goals, and the importance of “Owning Your Practice.”

Loretta Jackson Brown, PhD, RN, CNN, began her nursing career as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Brown is the Senior Health Communication Specialist and Team Lead, Education, Campaigns, and Implementation, for the National Center of Injury Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Brown is a leader within the American Nephrology Nurses Association, having served as a Southeast Vice President on the ANNA Board of Directors, chaired the ANNA Leadership Development Committee, and an author for ANNA publications and the Nephrology Nursing Journal. She currently serves as chair of ANNA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and is a member of ANNA’s Dogwood Chapter in Georgia.

Lillian Pryor, MSN, RN, CNN, is Sr. Manager for Medical Education for CVS Kidney Care. A member of the American Nephrology Nurses Association since 1990, Ms. Pryor has served in roles that include president-elect, ANNA director, ANNA Awards and Scholarships Committee chairperson, ANNA representative to the Kidney Health Initiative Patient Preference Task Force, and an author and peer reviewer for the Nephrology Nursing Journal. Ms. Pryor served as the 2020-2021 President of the American Nephrology Nurses Association. In addition, she is an active member of ANNA’s Dogwood Chapter in Georgia and has served the chapter as both its president and health policy representative.
