In this episode, double bassist and Ensemble Modern member Paul Cannon speaks with American composer and conductor Brad Lubman about what makes a great conductor, how conducting and the perception of it have changed during the 20th and 21st centuries, and why visually appealing conducting might not always be the best. Discover Lubman’s approach to composing, including insights into his new piece “…to quiet the mind…” and why he initially kept his composing a secret. You’ll also hear the story of how Brad Lubman was first introduced to Ensemble Modern in the 90s by Steve Reich.
