Our relationship with Nature. Speaking with Joshua Powell
Welcome to another Nature Talks episode. THIS NATURE TALKS WE ARE WITH JOSHUA POWELL! Joshua Powell is a Conservation Biologist and National Geographic Explorer. His research is interested in how human society interacts with the natural world - and how we can utilise that interaction to help conserve biodiversity.
Josh is the Expedition Leader for Rangers Without Borders - Eurasia, a multi-disciplinary research study which, supported by National Geographic, has been assessing wildlife ranger livelihoods, poaching threat and anti-poaching capability, and opportunities for trans-boundary cooperation, across Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Rangers Without Borders - Eurasia most recently completed fieldwork in Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lithuania and Poland, in partnership with local scientists and researchers at the University of Oxford, UK, and the University of Central Florida, USA.
Originally from the UK, Josh completed his Masters at the University of Pennsylvania, in the USA, as a Thouron Award Scholar, before accepting a Churchill Fellowship (2017) to work on innovative ideas in island conservation in the South Pacific and the South Atlantic.
With a lifelong interest in politics, Josh is keen to utilise the capacity of political action to create real-world change for human society and the natural world. He was named a 'Leader of Tomorrow' in 2016 by the St. Gallen Symposium, in Switzerland, and in 2018 became a member of the Queen's Young Leaders community, representing the UK. Josh is one of the faces of #WWFVoices for WWF. Website:
