New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell has been indicted on 18 federal counts, including conspiracy, wire fraud, obstruction of justice, and making false statements to a grand jury. Prosecutors allege Cantrell misused taxpayer funds by taking her police bodyguard, Jeffrey Vappy, on at least 14 trips across the country and abroad, costing the city more than $70,000. The indictment details overtime abuse, first-class travel against city rules, and over 15,000 WhatsApp messages between Cantrell and Vappy, which prosecutors say prove the two were engaged in a personal relationship while defrauding the city.
