VIDEO: Friday Night Fights - The Thing (1982 vs. 2011)

Our latest podcast venture, we're trying out a new series called Friday Nights Fights, where we compare two movies (an an original and a remake) to decide which movie comes out on top! In this episode, we compare The Thing 1982 v.s 2011. Who will come out ahead in the battle of the movies?

Today, we have a bone-chilling treat in store for you as we compare and dissect two iconic films: "The Thing" from 1982 and its prequel from 2011. "The Thing" is a name that sends shivers down the spines of horror fans worldwide. John Carpenter's 1982 film, a remake of the 1951 classic, introduced audiences to a tale of isolation, mistrust, and shape-shifting terror set in the desolate landscapes of Antarctica. Fast forward to 2011, and we have the prequel to Carpenter's film, also titled "The Thing." Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., this film takes us back to the origins of the story. It explores the events leading up to the 1982 film, focusing on the Norwegian research team that initially discovered the alien creature. But which movie comes out on top?

We both vote separately using the following categories to find out which movie does best at:

  1. Building suspense
  2. Creating well developed characters
  3. Not show the monster right away
  4. Having the best dialogue
  5. Having a great antagonist
  6. Giving the best creepy sound design/effects/music

Voting is based on our opinions only, but it's all in great fun. Join us for this new take on scary movie reviews.
