(E28) Parenting Queer Children
Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Naari-tives! As we're at the end of Pride Month, we have a very special episode up for you! We talk to Dr Meghna- a Clinical Psychologist and Certified Parenting Coach, about being a parent to a queer child. In this episode, we discuss how parents can be more supportive of their queer children, what it can mean for the mental health of both the parent and the child, and the implications the same may have within the Indian Context, among other topics! We also talk to Ms Sabrina Court, the mother of a gay son- regarding her experience supporting her child, and how it influenced the relationship she shared with her son! That said, we're really hoping that though June is Pride Month, these episodes and events we had at the Naari-tives and at Maathr this month has sparked a little thought and conversation to establish just why it's important to talk about the mental health of those within the community- not just in one month, but all year round! -- Link to Research Paper: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10508-019-1430-9 -- Other resources/references cited through the episode: https://doi.org/10.1300/J082v30n01_05 https://doi.org/10.1080/08952833.2019.1640569 https://doi.org/10.1007/s10591-017-9426-x https://doi.org/10.1300/J236v01n03_03 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7087348/ -- Naari-tives is a podcast brought to you by Maathr: An Initiative for Maternal Mental Health.
