23: Therapist Christy Maxson Treats Trauma With Acronyms

Christy Maxson and her husband Derek have been our friends here in Sonora longer than just about any one else in town, but I won't insult them by saying they are our oldest friends as they are still in the prime of their lives. Desiree and I had front row seats to watch Christy's career unfold right in front of our eyes over the last decade or so. We got to watch as she completed her Masters, then did all of her 3000 hours of observed counseling sessions, then become a licenced marriage and family therapist and as since been serving Tuolumne County in that capacity for the past three years. During our conversation, we talked through her journey to become a therapist. We talked about some of the challenges that she faces on a daily basis. She shared some of the joys of the whole thing, and how seeing people have breakthroughs in their lives is what keeps her going. Another thing that came up was that she mentioned a couple different methods that she employs when she treats patients who suffer from trauma and PTSD and she mentioned some acronyms that I'd never heard before. This was a really interesting discussion and I'm really glad Christy came on.
