4. Short Stories from the Indian Tea Estates - Part 1

Today's episode is a personal one and structured a little differently. We are stepping back in time to explore the tea estates of India, where I'll bring you two short stories straight from these lush landscapes.

Today, we journey through the aromatic tea gardens of India to explore two captivating tales—both grounded in historical accounts and rooted in a shared affection for these verdant estates. We'll delve into the indomitable spirit of Maniram Dewan in Assam and the haunting beauty of Margaret's Hope in Darjeeling, two enduring legends that capture the essence of India's rich tea culture.

I didn't use too many external resources for this episode, but these are the ones I did:

  • Maniram Dewan: Assam's first tea planter, freedom fighter, martyr
  • Margaret's Hoe | Goodricke
  • LEGENDS OF THE LEAF: MARGARET’S HOPE

CORRECTION: My father was chased by a rhino and not a hippo. Hippos can only run at 30km/hr - not much of a chase there! My father wanted listeners to know that he's not THAT slow. Haha
