We are talking with Dr Madhav Bhargav who completed his PhD Research into the Mental Health of young people and particularly University Students. Madhav relates a very funny story about how he learned about Trinity college Dublin and why he applied to go there. When he got to Trinity he became involved in the Graduate Students Union and was elected as the VIce President. He was the first sabbatical officer from outside the EU and North America, which tells you something about his appetite for new challenges. In his PhD, he focused on how young people / college student’s mental health is impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). He goes into detail as to how the research was conducted and how Quantitative Psychology and Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) can be useful in understanding mental health problems in young people. Currently Madhav is a post-doctoral researcher at National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF). His research as a postdoc focuses broadly on the implications of suicide and self-harm related behaviour on public health and psychological well-being. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at Trinity College Dublin.
