Navigating Bullying and Anxiety: What To Do When Work Feels Unsafe
Welcome to today’s episode, where we’re diving into a really tough challenge, a Gen Z employee dealing with workplace bullying. This story stood out to us because it’s something so many people in this generation are facing right now.   In coaching we always spend time up front trying to get clear on what the goal is, and in today’s story the person is wanting to understand how she can cope with the anxiety of her situation. A 2015 study examining all the research on this confirms that bullying leads to anxiety and depression which is no surprise. Bullying creates chronic stress, and that stress activates the body’s “fight-or-flight” response. Normally, this response is great for short-term threats, but when bullying happens repeatedly, it keeps the stress response turned on, and that’s when anxiety starts to take root.
