Currently based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Alex first discovered his passion for sound design and rhythm in 2003, quickly immersing himself in the French House movement. His musical curiosity and evolving taste later carried him through the raw energy of Techno and Minimal between 2012 and 2018, before ultimately finding his home in the lush atmospheres of Progressive House and Melodic Techno.
Subtractive’s career is marked by a constant search for balance between precision and emotion. His sets are crafted not just for the dancefloor but as immersive journeys that reflect his wide-ranging influences and refined technical skill. Over the years, his music has resonated at clubs and festivals across North America and beyond — from Detroit and Chicago to Windsor and Tulum — building a reputation for deep, powerful, and hypnotic performances.
Along the way, Alex has shared stages with an eclectic mix of artists who define the global underground, including Tinlicker, Justin Martin, Kenneth Thomas, J Phlip, Kyle Watson, Emma Hewitt, Omar Labastida, and many more. Each collaboration and encounter has shaped his artistry, adding layers of depth to his sound and presence behind the decks.
