Welcome to episode 72 of Music in the Minor League! In an unprecedented turn of events, Rachel and Griffin are back for a second episode in the SAME SEASON!!! Crazy stuff, right?
Well, Rachel and Griffin have combined into a single entity now entitled Rachel & Griffin. They have an album, Live at the Blue Door, coming out in December. They've rebranded everything and working on getting everything moving in a new direction.
There are lots of interesting tips in here for those looking to do the same thing or just interested how bands decide to change things up. Also, we went WAY off the rails a few times on this episode, so there's lots of fun, as well!
Welcome to episode 71 of Music in the Minor League! This week, we're joined by Jared McGovern.
For nearly two decades Jared McGovern has been a staple of the roots world and a veteran of the highway, now he's set off on a solo journey.
Jared got his start playing bass for Bob Wayne, Wayne Hancock and Jayke Orvis & the Broken Band. In 2014, he formed the high energy hillbilly swing trio The Urban Pioneers. After a short hiatus from the road, Jared is back with a new band and a new batch of swingin' tunes that's sure to get them shins shakin'.
It has been a while since we used an episode of our podcast to talk about our favorite thing: us!
Alright, fine! We prefer talking with other folks, but it was a landmark episode, we just finished our new album, the year is winding down and just had some stuff to talk about, so it was podcast time!
Thanks for tuning in and giving us enough listeners to justify 70 episodes! As a celebration, we'll be kicking off the discussion with a new song from the upcoming record! The song is called Still See You Here. Hope you dig it and we'll see you all next week!
Welcome to episode 69 of Music in the Minor League! We're back after a break spent finishing up the album, playing some benefits and preparing for a month-long break from shows. It was good to get some time away, but we missed talking music with folks.
To celebrate our landmark 69th episode, we could only think of one person to talk to. That person was Howell Windham (aka Howell Kuache) of Houston folk-rock-punk band Tekuache. You may recognize Howell from this prior band, Houston-area legends: Blackgrass Gospel.
We were stoked to have the opportunity to record one of our conversations with Howell and to ask him some personal questions without it being weird since it was for the podcast. We hope you dig it!
Be sure to check out Howell's bands and prepare for the Blackgrass Gospel reunion planned for Walk This Earth Festival 2026!
Welcome to Episode 68 of Music in the Minor League! This week, we're joined by Anna La Mare! Anna tours as a solo artist and also fronts her band, Damn Sam. She currently travels back and forth between Texas living and playing in both locales.
Her bio reads: Singer-songwriter Anna La Mare has been described as "emotional honey," "folky Florence and the Machine," "indie Joan Baez" and "a soul-driven embodiment of Joni Mitchell."
Her haunting folk Americana, touched by Celtic, Appalachian, and jazz influences, is as vulnerable as it is brave, offering you a home within her stormy and poetic soundscape.
With her ghostly, road-worn and soulful voice, La Mare (Lah MAH-ray) sings the stories she's picked up in her travels, enlivening the wanderer in every listener.
We made sure to leave the pronunciation in there since Samuel had such a hard time with it. Enough that Anna had to use the phrase "Damn, Sam!" in more ways than just talking about her band.
We hope you enjoy the interview and we'll see you in a couple of weeks with episode 69!
Episode 67 of Music in the Minor League has arrived!
This week, we are joined by Robert Johnson of Stars & Satellites! Robert started Stars & Satellites in the mid-2000s as a studio project, releasing 2007s Solutions before going on a hiatus due to work and life in general. He returned to recording a few years ago with a few singles before eventually transitioning to a live act around a year ago.
Robert is currently working new singles and hitting stages around the Houston area where he's already making in-roads as an opening act for both local and touring artists.
We had a great time talking about music from all vantage points and the path from covering Blink-182 at a talent show to performing as an adult. We also talk about A LOT of other stuff. Enjoy the episode, we'll be back in two weeks!
Welcome to episode 66 of Music in the Minor League! This week, we're talking to Scott Schaafsma of Kerosene Stars. We first heard Kerosene Stars when they played with MiML alums, Junebird, last year. We've seen them quite a few times since then and even had the opportunity to play a show with them recently. So, it just made sense to hassle Scott about doing an episode of the podcast.
Kerosene Stars is an American power-pop/rock band originally formed in Chicago, IL. Then, in 2023, Scott moved to the Houston area and started a new version of the band. The catch is that he never broke up the Chicago version, so both branches of the band operate simultaneously and perform in their own regions depending on where Scott is. It's a pretty cool concept.
We hope you enjoy the conversation and learn all you hope to about Kerosene Stars! We'll see you again next week as we catch up from our summer break!
This week we return from our July break with episode 65 of Music in the Minor League. This episode brings us back to our near second home at this point: Fort Collins, CO. We'll be talking to Slp (pronounced 'slip') of Maudlyn Monroe.
Classically trained, with a love for riot grrl and 70's NY punk, Maudlyn Monroe is a vocalist/guitarist/saxophonist/pianist with an up-tempo emo feel—an electrified lackadaisical punk. Their voice, with its three octave range, has been called "angelic" and "soulful", "bird-like" and "desperate", and lends to quiet folk contemplation, shocking soul, and raw punk sounds.
We had an absolute blast spending an evening discussing music, life and so much else with Slp. If y'all have half as much fun listening as we did recording this one, this will be one of our most popular episodes. Enjoy!
Episode 64 of Music in the Minor League dropped at midnight! Our guest this week is David Fahl! David is a singer-songwriter currently based out of the Houston area.
We've seen David's name all around Houston whether it be newsweeklies, show announcements or 'Fahl & Folk' stickers on guitar cases and venue walls. We finally got to meet him a few months back and hear some of his songs. When he asked if we would be interested in having him as a guest on the podcast, we said yes immediately. Then took forever to schedule it. But when it finally happened, we were excited to sit down to talk with him about music, coming to Texas from Minnesota and so much more.

Welcome to episode 63 of Music in the Minor League! This episode, we are talking to Cory Todd & Kevin Marble of Oddtoddler. Oddtoddler is a local band that resides on the Gulf Coast and plays all around our area.
We met them for the first time out at the League City Folk Association songwriter nights and really dug their tunes. They definitely aren't afraid to mix it up with the genres. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2019 and still feels fresh!
Be sure to check them out online and find a show near you to attend!
Welcome to episode 62 of Music in the Minor League!
This week we were joined by Celeste Marie Wilson! She's a 21 year old powerhouse vocalist and songwriter from the north side of Houston.
We first met her in spring of 2024 when we shared a bill together for Sofar Sounds. She was an excellent live performer and blew us away. She's naturally driven, insightful and we enjoyed our conversation with her greatly.
For episode 61, we sat down with our friend, fellow songwriter and all around awesome person: Tex Renner. We've known Tex for as long as we can remember hanging around the Old Quarter scene. His harmonica playing made us pay attention and his songs made us stay.
He has a new album called A .44 in an 88 and is having a release party THIS SATURDAY (May 17th) at the Old Quarter. Mark your calendars and come hang out!
Welcome to the 60th episode of Music in the Minor League! On this episode, we are joined by Karen & Kevin Jordan who make up the Americana duo: Whiskey & Wine!
Whiskey & Wine is an Americana duo from Austin, Texas, blending folk, rock, country, and blues into a captivating and timeless sound. Husband-and-wife multi-instrumentalists Kevin and Karen Jordan craft heartfelt songs that honor the legacy of artists like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Tom Petty while carving their own path in modern roots music.
As hosts, we really enjoyed hear Karen and Kevin's path to music, their lives together and how Kevin found his way back to music after a break while Karen never stopped playing.

Welcome to episode 59 of Music in the Minor League! This week we were joined by Taylor Gwyn and Andi Hendricks of Blade Job! They just had their new EP entitled 'Pre-Op' come out earlier this month so we wanted to sit down and talk to them about the band, their new EP, being trans in the music scene and their other band Bayou City Kids!
This was probably one of the best conversations we've had with a band and actually delved into some music theory. That's right, the punk band got off into music theory. Talking with Taylor and Andi was so much fun that we kept talking for a couple of hours after the 90 minute interview was over.
We know y'all are going to enjoy this and walk away with some knowledge. Enjoy!
Music in the Minor League makes its first trip across the pond to talk to our friend, Paul Grant about his band: Toy Hospital.
Toy Hospital has a new live album they just released a few weeks ago entitled Changed Priorities Ahead and have been playing a lot around their hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland.
We had a great time catching up with Paul and hearing about how similar the music scenes are in the US and the UK. We also enjoyed hearing about the differences. Plus we got to talk about what has turned into our favorite topic: The ridiculous size of Texas and Houston.

This week, Samuel and Kim celebrated their anniversary by sitting down with Griffin Wade and Rachel Lynch to discuss life as working musicians working locally around the Oklahoma City area while also mixing in touring around the country. They played 180+ shows in 2024 and are keeping the pace up so far in 2025.
We have been trying to make the stars align for a couple of years now and finally made it happen! We had a blast talking to them, which explains the lengthy episode, and we think you'll have a lot of fun listening to the conversation!

We're back with a new episode of Music in the Minor League!
Our guest this episode is Carter Felker! Carter was an absolute blast to talk to. He's one of those people you meet and within 5 minutes, it's like you're best friends. His new album entitled Loser is out on Friday! Be sure to check it out!
Carter hails from Calgary, AB! He's our second international guest and our second from Canada. It's also worth noting that he came recommended by our first Canadian guest, Sean Burns! Welcome to episode 55 of Music in the Minor League. AKA Episode 4 of season 3! For this episode, we had the privilege of talking with Jewelz Melody! You may recognize her from Shame On Me where she blows minds and melts hearts with season 2 guest Mel Gutierrez. She also is known to sit in with folks like Dem Roots Music and Opie Hendrix. Oh, and she's also working on solo material, some of which she performed on a recent episode of Long River Sessions.
Jewelz's has a rather unique relationship with music and language that makes her path to music one of the most captivating stories we've heard on the podcast thus far. She hears songs, sees them, feels them and can interpret them in many ways. It is truly impressive.
We hope you'll give this one a listen. It's so good!
Also, a special thanks for Masaya Tamegai for sharing a song from Jewelz's Long River Session with us.

Welcome to the 54th episode of Music in the Minor League! This week, we'll be venturing out to Colorado to talk with singer-songwriter Ben Garcia! After some time away from music, Ben is back at it with a string of new singles.
