The evolution of Mountain Bikes and MTB trails in Rotorua - Chatting with Gaz Sullivan

At New Zealand Mountain Biking, we run epic mountain biking tours across the scenic North Island, New Zealand. We also help riders build confidence and skills in our MTB and eMTB private lessons on the legendary Rotorua trails.

The best way that you can support this content is by booking a ride/lesson with us so that we can continue to just talk about mountain bikes!

In this episode, I chat with Garry Sullivan who has been local to Rotorua for over 20 years and absolutely loves the place. We hear about the first mountain bikes to grace the Whakarewarewa Forest and how the trails evolved with the bikes. Gaz is always stoked to be on his bike and empower others to do the same! He started an apparel company 25 years ago for mountain bikers because there just wasn't anything suitable to wear. The Dobies becoming mountain bikers' uniforms and are still available 25 years later.

Gary has been an advocate for Rotorua's mountain biking since the beginning seeing a lot of key people come and go over the years. His website RideRotorua.com is a great resource for those trying to learn more about the history of the trails you love!
