Welcome to Movie Night! Today, I sat down with my friend, Grace Farish and watched her favorite movie with her: 1999’s 10 Things I Hate About You. Directed by Gil Junger, and starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, 10 Things I Hate About You is a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. The film follows the high school romances of the Stratford sisters: the pretty, popular Bianca, and the snarky, misanthropic Kat. To prevent any immorality, their father will only allow Bianca to date a boy if Kat also has a date, something unlikely to happen. What unfolds is a love parallelogram of sorts as this Shakespearean classic becomes a late-90’s defining rom-com.
