The Mothers of Modern Gynaecology with Dr Kameelah Philips OBGYN
This week we sit down with Badass Dr. Kameelah Phillips, an OBGYN from New York City. Kameelah has spent the past 10 years sharing the whole truth around the “Father of Modern Gynaecology”, Dr Sims and the experimental atrocities he performed on enslaved Black womxn in his quest for medical advancement. She leads this retelling and education of HERstory by renaming one of Sims medical devices after Lucy, an enslaved Black womxn. In this episode we learn why this reclaiming and renaming is so important, and why we need to expand our narrowed and often white-washed male historical lens to understand the fullness of our past. Only then can we reshape our future. Lindsay awkwardly confesses her freebirth and temporarily stops Kameelah’s heart, but we bring it back together with advice for navigating the often biased medical system, and wrap it up with a touching story around an elderly womxn empowered to get her freak on. This ones loaded with vital information, the launch point for learning about the Mother’s of modern Gynaecology, and our responsibility in not only changing the narrative, but the very world we live in. Get comfy, take notes, and be sure to connect with Kameelah for all the magic she’s bringing the world.
