Mental Health Awareness

Mental health MONDAY

“ If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can NOT buy.”

I am not a material person and I can brag proudly about it. When I was young my parents would not buy expensive things for my sister and me, and why would they? As kids there is literally no need for expensive personal belongings, they would either break them, lose them or even stain them.

As a personal opinion, at the end of the day the way I look never stopped me from making amazing friendships, having good grades, and performing in sports.

It’s not about what brand I am wearing, it’s about what I have inside my head.

No matter what I am wearing or what I have on, it’s about the information and knowing things that I keep on learning.

Clothes or fashion will constantly change and you will never be satisfied, the greed that pushes you to want more will never be sustained, and that is what creates serious mental health issues, such as excess stress, depression and anxiety, and sometimes more.

My question is what is that impulse that pushes you to buy more? Why can’t you be ever satisfied with what you already have?

Most people often experience the frustrating awareness that their financial curbs are by some means blocking their pathways toward happiness. Our media is feeding us every day with new things to consume; new shoes, new phones, new purses, with a price that can not cease to increase.

Consumption sometimes becomes an obsession for a lot of people, and it is not uncommon to see them neglect basics and essentials in order to fritter away money on obvious objects.

Research has demonstrated that materialism is associated with self-centeredness and a loss of concern for others. These behaviors often lead to conflicts and self-destruction as well.

Detach yourself from the materialistic type.

Thus, when you come to a point of realization, the answer is about what you have in your mind, it’s about your wisdom, your knowledge, the power you have to inspire others, to stand for what is right you will never feel the need to seek for more. You will never feel bad to be who you truly are anymore.

Your belongings do NOT define who you are, they are not making you more important or more successful than anyone else.

What DOES make you important is your humility, empathy, and most importantly your heart. The way you treat others is what makes you important, the way you stand for what you like and what seems good for you is what makes you important.

Don’t let anything or anyone characterize who you are, last but not least you are WORTHY.
