James Austin competed at the 2012 London Olympics in Judo in the 100kg weight class. He talks about his experience competing at the Olympics in his home country and discusses his personal challenges with injury in the latter part of his career. Austin describes his adversity surrounding an ACL/MCL tear that forced him to miss his final international competition, the Commonwealth Games. The injury also meant that he was unable to leave the sport on his own terms. Austin suggests that having new avenues to pursue in life facilitated his transition out of sport.
