Gautam is a serial entrepreneur and investor with vast experience in the technology, venture capital, and animal welfare sectors. He grew up in Silicon Valley after his family moved to the United States from India when he was 10 years old. He studied Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley.
His more than two decades of experience in the technology industry were spent at Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Microsoft. He went on to establish startups Simply Hired, a job search engine; and AtWeb, a web tools company. He also co-founded India Community Center, an NGO which has raised US$40 million in funding and operates several facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is considered to be the largest India-focused, non-profit, community facility in North America. He founded Good Startup, a Singapore-based venture capital firm seeking to remove animals from the food system, which has invested in leading and emerging alternative protein companies across the US and Asia. The heightened awareness on sustainability led consumers to choose plant-based or alt-protein diets and Good Startup hopes to be instrumental in this shift.
