Welcome to Message Engineer for the Medtech Startup Show! What I hear over and over again is the struggle with creating clear, compelling and competitive messaging that resonates, particularly for the medical device, medtech, health tech and digital health technology (DHT) startup. Every month we are turning to some of the leading lights in the medical device business world to learn how to be successful with customer-facing messages to drive funding and revenue for growing medtech startups. We will also explore message failures and learning so we can all rise together to deliver better patient outcomes. Medical Device messaging is complicated – patients, healthcare providers (HCPs) including physicians, healthcare insurance payers, buyers such as hospitals and integrated delivery networks (IDNs), ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), and more. Internally, marketing works with a cross-functional team for message and marketing approval, including regulatory, clinical, and legal. Additionally, the message must well work for the sales force and, often, global distribution partners. I'm Maureen Shaffer ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/maureenashaffer ) , the host of Message Engineer podcast, and I've been in the medical device field for thirty (30) years now. I am a three-time Vice President of Marketing who has led small medical device startups through multiple Series A and Series B funding rounds – and one IPO. I started as a biomedical engineer and came up through product marketing management. I understand the joys and challenges of innovation in a highly regulated space.
