In Part Two of our conversation, Vish chimes in on life beyond the tools opening up about his past experience living with OCD and ADHD, and how those experiences have shaped not only his work but his understanding of himself.
We explore how his partner’s support became a grounding force through chaos, during that journey.
What it really means to build change in construction not just in policies, but in people.
This episode dives deeper into identity, acceptance, and the small daily choices that turn survival into purpose. It’s a reminder that strength doesn’t come from doing it all alone and Onward shift is on a mission to build a space where a plethora of services can be offered to tradesmen.

In this episode, I sit down with Vishal, founder of OnwardShift — a mental health platform created for people in the construction industry. With over 15 years on the tools, Vish has seen firsthand the pressure, the silence, and the heavy expectations that shape so many lives on site.
He’s on a mission to break the stigma around mental health in construction and to advocate for fair treatment and genuine support not just for men, but for anyone who’s ever felt they had to “just get on with it.”
Vish shares the story of how he reached a breaking point a moment where ending his life felt like the only option and the courage it took to choose something different.
This conversation is about honesty, hope, and what it means to build a community where no one has to hold their struggles alone.

In part two, we dive into the real resistance many men feel toward therapy and emotional support. The host brings forward the common pushbacks , the doubts, the distrust, the belief that “talking won’t fix anything” and the guest responds from professional experience rather than theory.
Together, they explore why so many men are sceptical of therapy, how emotional avoidance becomes a survival strategy, and what it actually looks like to begin doing the inner work without losing your edge, your humour, or your sense of self.
This isn’t a conversation about convincing men to open up. It’s about understanding where the resistance comes from, honouring it, and showing that healing doesn’t make you weaker, it makes you more you.

In this episode, we sit down with counsellor Francesca Francis to explore what it’s really like working with boys in a school setting.
We talk about the emotional patterns she’s noticed between boys and girls in therapy, how young people express anxiety and panic, and the grounding tools she uses to help them reconnect with their bodies.
Our conversation also touches on the power of inner child work, and why understanding emotional expression in boys is key to helping them grow into connected, compassionate men.
This is Part One of our discussion a thoughtful, grounded look into how healing begins in small, everyday moments.

“The Anatomy of Anger” dives into the fire we call rage — the one men are taught to trust more than any other feeling.
Through immersive sound and raw first-person narration, this episode explores anger not as a monster, but as armor — a shield built over sadness, fear, and the quiet ache of being unseen.
What happens when the fire cools… and you finally hear what it was protecting?
After a break, the podcast returns with a powerful episode featuring my friend Amichi, who shares a heartfelt letter to his younger self.
The host speaks about the importance of men reconnecting with their inner child, facing emotions we’ve buried, and how unprocessed pain shows up as self-sabotage. This is an honest reminder that vulnerability isn’t weakness—it’s where real strength begins.
Trev shares the importance of selfishness in a relationships and how that has kept his relationship bond strong. He also details how to avoid burnout for young creatives who are just beginning their journey, how catering to your core audience and refraining from chasing trends.
If you enjoyed part 1 you will love part 2!
In this two part episode series, the host and Trev cover a wide range of topics from living in China, life as an expat and the ramifications, starting out on the creative and they reminisce on how boarding school impacted them as men. Embracing self-denial has proven to be a game-changer for me. It's given me the discipline to stay focused on my long-term goals, whether in my career, finances, or personal growth. It's strengthened my relationships by teaching me patience and empathy, making me a better partner and friend. Plus, being mindful of the nature of the content I'm exposed to and making environmentally responsible choices of desexualising and dopamine detoxing. Self-denial, in my experience, is a key to becoming a more resilient and conscious man.
