Join Povism as he sits down with the versatile artist Remi, whose stage name playfully references the rat. Remi is a multi-talented musician, adept at rapping, spoken word, singing, and playing the piano, striving to do a bit of everything. His journey into music began with a deep love for it since childhood, solidified by the electrifying energy of live performances and the profound ability to connect with and inspire a crowd.
Remi's current focus extends beyond entertainment; his upcoming very big projects are driven by a powerful message, particularly for the youth. Drawing from his unique experiences growing up in South London, Remi offers a critical perspective on class differences and societal stereotypes. He's actively working on projects, like one funded by Goldsmiths, that aim to dismantle the road man stereotype—the image of a young black person in a puffer jacket and mask—by showcasing the hidden artistic talents, such as masterful piano playing or powerful poetry, of individuals often judged by their appearance. Outside of creating his own music, including a song called Home, Remi dedicates his time to mentoring young aspiring musicians at Alchemy and honing his craft at Access Creative College.
