Humanitarian Communications Part 1
Join Professor Lee Edwards and Professor Lillie Chouliaraki as they discuss the rapidly changing field of humanitarian communications. How do NGOs use media and strategic communication to fundraise, lobby and bring about policy change? How do these practices relate to wider issues of global inequality, technological change and celebrity culture? Lee Edwards researches strategic and humanitarian communication. Her recent article on visibility in promotional context is available open access ([https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/20570473221146661](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/20570473221146661)). Lillie Chouliaraki has researched humanitarian communication for two decades. Her publications include the books The Ironic Spectator: Solidarity in the Age of Post-Humanitarianism (Polity, 2013, [https://www.wiley.com/en-gb/The+Ironic+Spectator:+Solidarity+in+the+Age+of+Post+Humanitarianism-p-9780745642109](https://www.wiley.com/en-gb/The+Ironic+Spectator:+Solidarity+in+the+Age+of+Post+Humanitarianism-p-9780745642109)) and the edited volume The Handbook of Humanitarian Communication (Routledge, 2021, [https://www.wiley.com/en-gb/The+Ironic+Spectator:+Solidarity+in+the+Age+of+Post+Humanitarianism-p-9780745642109](https://www.wiley.com/en-gb/The+Ironic+Spectator:+Solidarity+in+the+Age+of+Post+Humanitarianism-p-9780745642109)).
