LeAnn and Suzanne talk all about Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)

Episode 4 Show Notes:

We talk about Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria: What is it? What does it have to do with ADHD?

  • Experts feel like RSD should be included into ADHD diagnosis criteria, but it isn’t. Why? Because the DSM-V generally doesn’t include emotions in diagnostic criteria since it’s more difficult to obtain.
  • Did you know? Approximately 50% of people in court-ordered anger management have untreated/undiagnosed ADHD.
  • Suze and LeAnn go through the RSD self-test together and share their individual responses and thoughts.
  • We share our stories on shame, guilt, and not feeling good enough; the work we’ve done to process and reprogram our shame stories, and what we are currently struggling with.
  • How do we finally motivate ourselves to “do the thing” when we struggle with ADHD and have RSD?
  • We share our fears about not being good enough and letting others down.
  • Snakepit brains
  • How does RSD affect relationships with others? We discuss romantic and non-romantic relationships and how we work through our shame of expressing emotions like anger and jealousy.
  • Communication with others to have our needs and emotions met effectively, because we don’t want to be known as the needy chicks, while also setting boundaries and finding people who are emotionally available for us to feel safe enough to be vulnerable with them.
  • Competency, the perpetual thorn in Suz and LeAnn’s sides to overcoming feelings of shame.
  • Managing anxiety and separating the stories we tell ourselves from facts and leaning into vulnerability.
