The Firetruck Dream with Sarah Chapman

Our guest this week is Sarah Chapman, a former nurse, who sensitively shares her experience of caring for infants, and parents, in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. Sarah is a mover and shaker whose heart is tied to radically changing healthcare and improving peoples lives through innovative technology. In 2007, she left traditional bedside nursing, where she specialized in neonatal and pediatric Intensive Care, and took on the challenge of global health applied sciences.

She discusses the beauty and power of the life force in her tiny patients, as well as the heartbreak of witnessing their life forces leave.

Sarah also talks about her transition from traditional healthcare to global health applied sciences, where she works on innovative technologies and projects to improve healthcare worldwide. She shares her work in West Africa, rescuing children from the sex trade and providing them with healthcare, education, and love.

The conversation explores the impact of life force energy on these vulnerable children and the importance of understanding cultural contexts. Sarah Chapman discusses the behaviors and challenges faced by girls who have experienced sexual abuse or assault, emphasizing the importance of providing a safe and structured environment for healing. She highlights the lack of access to mental health resources and medications in certain areas of the world, and the need to work with what is available. Sarah also talks about the role of religion and culture in Benin, where Christianity, Islam, and voodoo coexist. She shares her belief in leaving a positive impact on the world and the power of turning adversity into growth.

Takeaways

  • The life force in infants is powerful and can impact many people, even in their short time on Earth.
  • Understanding cultural contexts and working alongside local communities is crucial in addressing complex issues like child trafficking.
  • Life force energy is essential for dreaming and envisioning a better future, but it can be suppressed in survival situations.
  • Providing tangible and intangible support, such as education, healthcare, and love, can help rehabilitate and empower vulnerable children. Girls who have experienced sexual abuse or assault often exhibit behaviors of mistrust, fear, and a need for control.

More about our guest: As a clinical expert in her field, Sarah has actively taken part in breakthrough product development for disruptive technologies. Specifically, bringing to market the first every near-infrared vascular access device to improve a patients’ needle stick experience. She has partnered with countless healthcare companies around the world to integrate best practices, through medical devices, for various Ministries of Health.

In 2012, she founded Build A Better Benin, a non-profit focused on healthcare and education for women and children in Benin, West Africa. Both as a corporate representative and consultant, her achievements have been highlighted on various podcasts, including The Amani Experience, and has gained the attention and support of Rotary International. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for 2 different entities, both in the private sector, as a business advisor and charitable expert. When not trailblazing, Sarah is an adventure seeker who loves snowboarding, a good afrobeats DJ, creating art, and great white shark diving.
